godreamI wonder what governs whether companies recruit for interns early or late. Size of company, maybe? Lots of places have been running the interview mines at college lately, but doing a little scanning over places that my dad's suggested around Boston, many of them aren't even looking until spring.
I have been spending quality time at home with my family and with my dad's instruments... there's a gorgeous Guild guitar (Dad says the strings are older than I am, probably, which makes me a tiny bit nervous to play it) that I've been playing with, it's a hollow-body electric with a really beautiful sound, makes enough noise to practice without an amp but sounds rich and full (and loud!) with the amp. And also I've been goofing around with my dad's bass, which he says he'll maybe let me borrow for a while -- it's a really different experience, focusing on a line of one-note counterpoint, and I feel like it's much easier to get a solid grasp of what's going on musically than with the full chords of the guitar -- especially in light of 21M.301 -- and it'll be fun to attempt to hone my sense of rhythm a little more.
Family is wonderful -- baby brother (now 5) fell asleep in my lap at the imax watching Happy Feet last night. Happy Feet, by the way, is clearly a movie with a mission: picture a room full of executives: "what's cute? penguins. penguins are cute." "what's cuter? baby penguins." "what's even cuter? singing, dancing baby penguins." "YES."
I've gotten one of the two psets I promised myself I'd finish over the weekend done -- back to school tomorrow afternoon, to do the other and clean my room and study frantically for the 6.046 takehome. Whee!
