it's almost like a routine
Sep. 4th, 2004 03:34 pmI don't think I'll be totally at home here till classes start and I get a schedule. I do a bit better when I know what I'm doing. But things are still going more or less well. I auditioned for two of MIT's five million a capella groups -- I don't think I'll make either, unfortunately, because I was insanely nervous at the auditions. I sang "Paper Bag" by Fiona Apple, which is a great song and which I did more or less okay on, I think. Unfortunately, I found out at the second audition that someone else is auditioning for groups with that song, so I guess I've kinda invited a comparison that probably won't flatter me. And here I thought I'd chosen a relatively uncommon song too. :/ Ah, well. The second group asked me to sight-sing a piece of music, which annoyed me because when I went to sign up for auditions I'd asked specifically if I'd be asked to sight-sing, because I suck a lot at it, and been told that I wouldn't.
Also went on a tour of MIT's libraries, which was bad enough to be funny. After the tour, while on my way back to the dorm, I overheard the upperclassman who'd been leading the tour complaining about how he'd just been selected pretty randomly to do it, which explains a lot -- like why he didn't even know the stuff that the library prints on the brochures they've been distributing to freshmen, or even that those handouts were the place to go for that information. Today is Saturday, so many of the libraries are closed, which makes it a much less effective tour anyways. Bad planning. Oh well.
Still waiting for word on the housing lottery... another two and a half hours. (But I wanna know now!)
