Running early in the morning = six hours of headache afterwards. Bah. Dear body, why do you punish me when I am only trying to take care of you?

(Previously and elsewhere: "a couple blocks on the map in California is very different than a couple blocks on the map in Boston".)

Are you drinking enough water after your run? I usually find headaches after exercise are a dehydration thing.

That was my thought the first time, but I've been super diligent about water before + after in successive times and no better. (The good but odd part is that running at night -- even when I do come back a little parched -- doesn't seem to trigger it.)

Is it more true in the summer or year-round (thinking towards brightness vs. heat)? Are you prone to migraines? The sun definitely causes me headaches if I run around in it too much w/o sunglasses or a parasol or something.

What about salt balance and/or electrolytes?

Yeah, prone to migraines, and it is sorta the same brand of ouch. I don't think it's heat -- I've had it happen in other seasons too. :( Could have to do with brightness -- early-evening-but-still-sunny doesn't trigger, but that's less sun I suppose.

Hmmm, interesting -- I hadn't considered that, and it could explain why "before breakfast" is bad timing. Bring on the juice + gatorade!

Whether or not it's less sun, I've always felt early-evening-but-still-sunny sun is different in kind from morning sun unless you're talking directly juxtaposed sunrise. In my experience, brightness is ever the archenemy of migraines.
