Okay, I was born in Boston, I've lived in Massachusetts all my life, and I just don't get it.

Grown men whacking balls and running in circles, with the goal to run in more circles than the other guys, while getting gazillions of dollars to do so. Where, exactly, is the entertainment value again?

I've had a certain affection for baseball ever since watching the episode of The X-Files about the baseball-playing alien. Still. I agree with you.

It's like any other sport. There is entertainment value in the skill and athleticism, but also in the soap opera-ish ups and downs and struggles and triumphs of the teams and/or players. For those who play/have played the sport, it brings back memories or connects emotionally on that much stronger a level.
