May. 5th, 2005 06:11 pmIn the last 24 hours, the amount of time I've spent doing math outweighs the time I've spent sleeping by at least a factor of 3. This is not a recipe for sanity. Why didn't I just go to some nice little liberal arts school?
(Oh yeah, that's right. This whole MIT is the coolest place on earth thing. Just gotta keep remembering that...)
But this week's almost over -- just a tiny biology p-set and an 8.02 pset of doom which I might punt part of and the 6.001 project which I have until Sunday night to finish because I begged for an extension, and okay, maybe it's not quite over, but getting there. Phew.

Date: 2005-05-06 03:00 am (UTC)small pre-frosh question: punt? what does this mean? I assume it has something to do with not completing part of an assignment.....

Date: 2005-05-06 05:31 am (UTC)Punting is more or less the opposite of tooling. If you punt a p-set, you've decided that it's just not worth it to bother. Or alternatively (and maybe a little inconsistently in terms of usage, but oh well) there's sentences like "I punted all weekend so now I'm hosed," which is pretty much my situation this week...
If you look closely at the wings of the owl in the class of '07's ring (http://web.mit.edu/2007/ring/ring/class.pdf) you can see the words Punt and Tool. I think the words have been included on other versions of the Brass Rat as well...

Date: 2005-05-09 02:11 am (UTC)....because then you'd be stuck doing english and history papers up the wazoo. And no, none of them were due sometime in the past. They just all decided to be due at the same time. Plus studying for associated tests and quizzes. (This comment brought to you by the fact that I am uber-glad to be going somewhere where papers will NOT be a significant portion of my homework time.)
