I keep meaning to write, and not doing it. This is a much briefer run-through than I intended, because if I wait till I get around to writing everything it'll never happen.
So among the many sponsors of the MIT Media Lab, where I work, is AARP, the American Association of Retired People. On Friday, we had a big sponsor to-do with them and two other sponsors, where the sponsors made a presentation and us students commented and critiqued. Obviously the youngest panelist (yours truly, though not by much) was the brilliant choice for the AARP panel. And ... it was actually really interesting, the prep material I had had to do with their projections of scenarios for the future of technology and the social structures around it and neat stuff like that, and I managed to say something halfway relevant during the insta-feedback session, and when I was talking to their reps they seemed positive, so: hurrah for not sucking!
On Saturday, Putz led an ice cream crawl through Boston -- starting in Davis Square, going through Harvard and Central and slipping down Main Street (unless I have my streets backwards, as happens), then across the river to hit up Newbury Street in Boston. Six different ice cream places over the course of five-ish hours (we walked) culminating in a Vermonster from Ben and Jerry's. Fairly awesome. The Toscanini's plum ginger flavor is fantastic, don't listen to
beat_the_beaver, although not quite so good as Christina's banana-cinnamon. Mmmm.
The hours of walking in the sun left me with an interesting sort of t-shirt sunburn: I was bright red in a ring around my neck, a skinny stripe between the shadow of my head and the edge of my t-shirt. It was definitely interesting, looked like I did a terrible job hanging myself or something.
Made cheesecake tonight; we shall see tomorrow how it turned out. (It cracked, I'm sad but not surprised, but looks decent besides that.) I have a new and functional CD/DVD drive in my laptop, I have a box to send my ipod in for repair, I have the Haughty Melodic CD, I have candy from my great-aunt, I'm pretty satisfied. (I have no social skills or nerve, but since when is that news?) And now I'll get some sleep, to continue with the list of things which are within reach and very enjoyable to have.
