D in 6.002. D. Dammit, dammit, dammit, DAMMIT.

I shouldn't be this surprised and disappointed but I guess I did deep down think I had pulled off a C or C-. Doubtless whatever I got on that hellish exam means I richly deserve the D, and hey, at least it's passing but at the same time fuck, fuck, fuck.

Not the end of the world. Consolation not necessary -- I just need to write it and get it out of my system and cope with it. (dammit.)

An A for Digital Poetry and A- in 6.042, though, and got a B in 6.170, and that cheers me up sorta.

Home now, with family and everyone, playing board games with my siblings, sleeping till I wake up on my own (yay, no alarm!) and wrapping presents and (heh) watching old Stargate: Atlantis episodes, and reading lots and lots. We're going up to Maine for Christmas Eve, seeing my stepdad's parents, which should be nice... so glad for a vacation, finally.

...You did better than I did. I hope I'll never have another semester as bad as this one.... and I hope I'll get better at not avoiding my problems and dealing with them directly. ¬_¬

And, since I haven't asked this before... what on Earth is Digital Poetry? ^_^

Ah, Digital Poetry. It's ineffable, is what it is. Course catalogue description is "Digital forms of poetry, including hypertext poems, Flash-animated poems, poems within short digital videos and interactive forms of poetry and games. Readings in early hypertext theory and creative writing. Experiment with creating poetry for wireless access on hand held devices. Test the assumptions of these early theorists through practice of creating digital poetry. Students discuss online examples of each of these kinds of digital poetry and then compose their own work, to present in class for critique and revision. The final project allows students to build upon their experience throughout the semester with these forms." Which is pretty much true except for the lines about "test the assumptions of these early theorists..." and "readings in early hypertext theory and creative writing" -- i.e., we had pretty much no reading assignments; it was a class entirely about goofing around and making projects for a series of weekly assignments, from re-interpreting (http://web.mit.edu/alisonc/www/digitalpoetry/index.html) George Herbert's 1633 poems "Easter Wings" (http://www.luminarium.org/sevenlit/herbert/wings.htm) and "The Altar" (http://www.ccel.org/h/herbert/temple/Altar.html) in sound and visual media to creating "game poems" and "code poems" -- which was a lot of fun, although I would have really liked to have some formal discussion of what these forms are and why they're awesome and what people have done with them in past... I feel like, as enjoyable as this sort of project-based fun is, my experience personally would have been a lot richer with more outside resources employed, especially since I was really interested in the topic and not just looking for an easy-A HASS class. (Which probably means I should have gone Googling for stuff myself, but I was busy and cranky and preoccupied.)

Avoiding problems vs dealing with directly -- oh, boy, I hear you. And sympathize. Here's hoping next term is better for both of us.
