Mar. 11th, 2006 01:06 am1.) I have a new computer! I am basking in the joy of ownership. It's shiny, by which I mean matte black and wonderful. I love it. I haven't named it, 'cause I just sorta don't name computers, they just never strike me as things to be named in spite of the occasional personality they possess, it doesn't stick in my mind.
2.) Battlestar Galactica -- I can't decide what exactly I think of it. On any other show I think I'd expect next season's opener to be like, "and then Gaius woke up from the strange dream he'd been having." It was certainly interesting just because whoa, you don't *do* that in TV shows, just skip forward a year? I desperately want to know what happened in the intervening time: tell me about settling on the planet, tell me about Starbuck and Anders getting married (wtf?), tell me about Cally and Tyrol -- tell me about the cylons, dammit, 'cause *whoa*, and which Six was that supposed to be at the end? I'm told war-hero-Six/Caprica-Six, and you can tell by the clothes, but I almost want to believe it's Pegasus-Six, and if it's Caprica then how they heck did she end up in charge?
And I guess suspense and questions is just what they want, so that we all come back in October (aaaargh) but this is a little extreme. And strange. Some of the friends I watched with are pinning "one year later" as the jumping of the shark; I'm not ready to say that but this was a weird, weird episode.
I'm probably going to watch it again.
3.) I should get busier, do more things that make me happy, get my act together already. Yeah, any minute now.
4.) I can't remember what 4 was supposed to be.

Date: 2006-03-11 12:56 pm (UTC)I'm pretty sure that was both Caprica Six and First Sharon there. The priest!cylon said that thir voices carried weight as heroes and that the other cylons had really flocked to their banner. I don't think that it could be Pegasus Six because there weren't any resurrection ships in range when she set off the nuclear bomb, so she couldn't respawn. I guess that could just be a cylon lie about the resurrection ship, but the mannerisms really made me think of Caprica Six as well, based on the episode on Caprica.
I kind of like the finale. It blows my mind, but I'm totally cool with that. I like it because all along we've known the game, we've known - yeah, they're fleeing the cylons but the toasters have some tricks in store and it'll be oh what the hell do we do now. With the finale, it's completely different. The fleet has to try and come back to save them, with less than full manpower, and the others have to start doing some covert ops and resistance battle against tyrannical overlords and such. Also, I actually can kind of see the cylons deciding, when they go to look for their own path, that it's a path of domination rather than genocide.
I do think though, that if they pull some kind of "it's just a dream" thing with Gaius that that'll be cheap, in a way. It would have to have a darn fine explanation. I guess it could be Gaius' mind!Six screwing with him to keep him from settling on the planet. ...I don't know, I kind of feel like, if they're going to go with the big shocker like this, they've gotta go all the way. Plus, I'm dying to know what the cylons want with Starbuck.

Oh yeah, very much so -- and I can't imagine any non-lame way for them to undo it, so I can't imagine them undoing it -- and if any show could pull this maneuver off, this is it. You're totally right that they're playing a whole new game though, and that's awesome^2 and super interesting. But I wanted to see the endgame, the rest of the middle game, that they were playing before! And now the only way to get that is gonna be flashbacks, yuck.
But I have faith that they won't frak it up, so to speak, I think. Boy do I want October *now* though --

Date: 2006-03-22 06:52 pm (UTC)I understand what you're saying about wishing you knew more about what happened in the middle. I do too. This show does love the flashbacks, so I'm sure we'll get pieces of it at least. Which may end up being more frustrating, I'm not sure.
I will second the wish for October. Do we really have to wait that long?
