May. 2nd, 2007 08:59 pmSo I was wandering through the kitchen this evening, kinda wondering what smelled good, absentmindedly snacking. A friend (and physics major, mind you) comes by and asks aloud, "What smells so good?" "I don't know," I respond, so she looks in ovens. "Oh, someone's baking a cake," she says.
Moment of silence as it sinks in. "Oh my god that was me," I say, removing it, much to her amusement. (It was only slightly overdone. Yay!)
Later, we discuss how it's a really awful sign when you have to say to yourself, "Gee, I wish I had it together as much as that physics major does."
Also, I replaced the keyboard on my laptop, and it's funny how different typing feels. The keys are noticeably less smooth and more responsive. (Also, this new keyboard actually has a left arrow key, which is a convenient change from the old one.)

Date: 2007-05-03 05:03 am (UTC)Okay, so it's Samantha's birthday, and she's one of our cocoa chairs and a sweet kid who gets way too much flak from the hall, so I want to make sure her cocoa goes okay. I bake the cake. That part goes fine.
And then -- well, it's about 8, and I'm hungry and restless, so Javier and Fish and I go out to dinner. We end up over in the North End, it was awesome, the place was classy enough that I had to pay attention all the time because they'd always serve me first and so forth because I'm the girl. Delicious food too. Mmm.
But it took us a while to make up our minds and to get there, and 10:15 rolls around and we're waiting for dessert and I realize I didn't frost the cake yet and I'm not going to be home in time to do so. So I start calling people on the hall, no answer from Gina, Emily, Jenn... but Jehan's there. I ask him. "You owe me," he says, and promises to do it.
But.
Twenty minutes or maybe half an hour later, we're headed out the door, and I realize: Sam made one request for her cake, one thing that she really wanted, I promised her she'd get it, and for all the aforementioned reasons I want to make sure she has it. So, much to the gentlemen's amusement, I take out my cell phone and call Jehan again.
"Jehan?"
"... Yeah?" Sounding suspicious, and I don't blame him.
"I kind of have another favor to ask. Um. Heh. Please? Can you put sprinkles on the cake?"
"You're kidding."
"No, I'm not..."
He did, too. Awww, Jehan. When I got back on the hall (just in time for the tail end of the screaming) I thanked & apologized profusely and he just gave me this look and said "Sprinkles."

Date: 2007-05-03 06:12 am (UTC)i think i forget that i'm baking cakes a lot...one time, only god knows why, but i decided to take a shower while the cake was baking...i think i had somewhere to go before cocoa and i didnt think i would have time to bake the cake and take a shower separately...so anyway i get out of the shower and i'm in my robe back to my room, when chris (i'm pretty sure it was chris) hollers at me and reminds me to pull the cake out of the oven...
then there was the time i forgot to frost the cake...everyone was meeting at my room for kate's birthday party and we're supposed to leave in a few minutes, when i look at my laptop and remember it was someone's birthday (thank god i'd remembered to bake the cake)...but anyway, i'm half dressed and frosting the cake when kate and her aunterage gets to mit and comes up to my room, just to find me in the kitchen shirtless...the first think rebecca sees is that i dont have on any shoes and chastizes me for being barefoot in the kitchen, until she sees that i dont have a shirt on and i said something to the effect of 'but it's ok if i dont wear a shirt?'...i also think that ruth came in and looked at me, shook her head and left...but that could have been another time
man, my typing stories sucks...
