downs and ups
Aug. 13th, 2003 09:52 pmEvery once in a very long while my cruddy room starts to depress me enough that I actually do something about it. Or start to do something, anyways. There's nothing that reminds me of how much I hate cleaning as actually cleaning.
A few of today's dicoveries:
~ $25 gift card to Barnes & Noble. I really hope it's not expired.
~ $15 gift certificate to Waldenbooks. Issued sometime in 2000 or 2001, I don't remember. Probably expired, but a girl can hope.
~ Old Chuck E Cheese tokens and tickets. At the very earliest, these are from last summer.
~ A buck or two in change. Mostly pennies.
~ Black post-it notes, without the opaque gel pen to write on them.
~ Squishy, soggy cough drops. I didn't know it was possible for cough drops to be squishy -- we're talking practically liquified here -- and it disturbs me. Maybe I can dare my little brother Seifer to eat some. *evil laughter*
~ That copy of 2001: A Space Odyssey I picked up at a church rummage sale two autumns ago and haven't read yet.
~ Chem binder from tenth grade, with witty comics in front pockets. Also neon green sticky notes from cramming for chem midterm.
~ Socks. So that's where they've been going.
~ Dead bugs (ew)
~ Three identical unopened cheap personal electronic organizers
~ Silly looking jewelry I can't believe I ever considered wearing.
~ Bits of old ideas and stories, ranging from recent to 2000-ish.
~ The power adapter to my old laptop
~ Some astrology thing I printed out online because I thought it was kinda accurate and also it had pretty pictures. I didn't find the page with the pretty pictures though, just the text. Darn.
I'm not actually rummaging through the piles at the moment -- this is just the highlights of what I can come up with on hand. So on the whole it was at least somewhat rewarding, if only for the sake of being reminded that me several years ago makes even me now look sophisticated, classy, and together by contrast. Go me.
Also, I got a few new reviews on fictionpress.com, which make me feel warm and fuzzy inside, even if I only got them 'cause I went and spent an hour or so reviewing other people and some probably felt obliged to return the favor. Yay! Interestingly enough two out of three have been on Mobius, which is not one of the new things, but hey, I'll take what I can get. :D
And oh, oh, oh! I got my AP score! The English Lit was the only one I took -- and I thought I got about a three, because I panicked on one of the essays and wrote about Crime and Punishment, which I didn't remember at ALL, and I thought I'd have to hide the score under my bed and try not to think about it, and I was wrong! Through some strange happening, I got a 5! Go me! Yay! ... *calms down* Er, sorry about the brag-hysterics, but I was just psyched. I mean, I thought I wrote better essays on the MCAS (mandatory Massachusetts 10th grade test one must pass to graduate from high school, for those who haven't had the pleasure). *g* I wrote about Crime and Punishment on the MCAS too, actually. That day in class afterwards the teachers would go around the class asking "so what did you write about?" "Catcher in the Rye," one kid would say, "To Kill A Mockingbird," said another. "Crime and Punishment," said I very quietly amongst disbelieving looks. ... I think it's funny now, but then (all of two or three years ago) I remember being really embarrassed.
