I don't usually feed trolls, but...
Jan. 25th, 2004 01:15 pmI made an exception.

I like that they jumped on "unique interests that my little sister won't steal". *g* On the other hand, normally, seeing one of my interests go blue would mean that there was someone else genuinely interested in that -- and I'd think that was pretty neat. This kinda defeats the purpose, takes some of the fun out of creativity, and discovering someone else's creativity has run parallel to yours. :/ I didn't think unlinked interests were some sort of "indie cool" (as they put it) way of saying neener neener neener, just a neat way of saying something about yourself that noone else has yet. I don't know.
But I guess it's also that urge to be the first, the only -- the same reason that people call other people posers because they didn't get into the craze as soon as people #1 did. I'm looking back at my last post where I start out by mentioning being the first to put Nick Sagan as an interest -- and frankly I expected that to get snapped up soon, figured it was unique now only because he's a pretty new author. And there was something there like: look at me, I've discovered something cool and new! ... But for me at least it wasn't gloating, I don't think -- I wouldn't have drawn attention to it if it was. I would've been happy to see the link go blue because -- again -- that "hurrah!" when someone else acknowledges that that's a really cool idea, a really neat thing that you're into. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem so much the spirit of the above individual.
