Corn on the cob at one am and pineapple-orange-raspberry smoothies, frosh bonding, LSC movies, study groups, discussion lists, phone deals, cocoa, hall invasions, neato advising seminar. It's starting to work.

This in spite of the 18.02 problem set of EVIL. I like math, I thought I was good at it by normal-people standards and at least sorta-average by MIT-geek standards. But this homework is just beating me up left and right. *sigh* Yeah -- I like math but I don't like calculus. Is that allowed?

I like math but I don't like calculus. Is that allowed?

Two days ago I said to an international girl from China that I didn't like Calculus. She was stunned. "At my school, the type of people who were into computer science were the people who liked math. I thought all CS majors liked math." At that point I explained that Calculus was just my least favorite part of math, and that I didn't hate the whole thing, which seemed to satisfy her...

She seemed very knowledgeable about "types of people". Apparently, she could tell by looking at me that I was from northeastern US.

Re: "types of people" -- Someone asked me where my accent was from the other day. I said I'd lived in Massachusetts all my life and she said she thought I was British or something. ???

I feel like I *should* like calculus, the concept is really cool and all, but actually doing it is no fun at all, all memorization and knowing the silly tricks. Bah.

LOL -- yeah, I heard you guys found it up there. My fellow 4E freshmen are (or want to be) waaay more militant than you'd expect, though, while the upperclassmen are all "uh... you realize if you go a floor upstairs or downstairs and just breathe funny then you'll be getting soaked on a regular basis for at least the next four years, and so will we." Kinda an interesting contrast of perspectives or something. :P It was definitely entertaining watching you guys parade down the hall, though. Where do you *get* all that stuff? :P
