First person, pretty informal, and occasional several-page tangents in the middle of events. I loved it, probably because I tend to write that way and it made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside to see that it's actually possible to do that style well. And she really does, I didn't think the occasional wandering was disruptive to the story at all.
And oh yeah, there was plot too, and It Was Good. I'm not sure I could summarize without spoiling, but I thought it was very interesting. Go read it! :)
Regarding other books: let's see. I read Deerskin a fair while ago, and I suspect it deserves a second reading. It was also pretty mature, and I suspect I'd have more of a clue what was going on now, as opposed to when I was twelve or whatever. The point is I can't say much about it. I do remember liking The Blue Sword (I think that was the name) a lot, and I think there was a sequel to it...? Or maybe that was the sequel to something else. Ah, Amazon tells me it's the sequel to the Hero and the Crown. So IIRC, those are also recommended.
