While working at the library today I definitely came up with some brilliant idea to write here. It's gone now, of course, but I just wanted to defend the fact that it WAS there, really. And it wasn't a ranting idea, either, I think, which sets it apart from nine out of ten entries here anyways...

Oh yeah, and these lines have been kicking around in my bag for ages and I needed to get them out, somewhere. Congratulations, my chosen victims. poetry!!! :P )

meh.

I was really looking forwards to tonight's Angel, especially after all the lovely bits of dialogue from the ads they've been showing. Indeed the "...and I'm his date" line amused me no end, but the rest of the episode wasn't quite as good as I'd hoped. Semispoiley, but not much. )

In other news, what does my brother think, that he's doing me a favor letting me help him with his homework? News flash, kiddo, it's the other way around. Unfortunately I'm enough of a softie that I don't just quit wasting my time with him, but it's exasperating nonetheless.

Zeus: Master of Olympus is great fun. It's kind of SimCity meets Greek mythology, very amusing. It's also one of those games where you think you've played for forty minutes, an hour tops, and then you glance at your watch and have to wonder how all of a sudden it's almost midnight.

Not, of course, that I would know anything about that. *innocent look* :P

I am going to love this season's Angel, if only for the Spike. I can just tell. Though the rest doesn't look half bad. *does the happy dance*

Yes, I found the time to watch my tape of the episode. Cut on the off-chance I'm not the last person in the universe to see the episode. )

If I started my Latin homework right now, and then moved on immediately to my English project, and calculus right after that... I might, maybe maybe maybe, have time to watch my tape of last night's Angel season premiere tonight.

Am I going to do that? No. Why not? Wish I knew. :P

Take the list. Remove the authors who aren't on your shelves, replace them with ones who are, and keep the list at ten names.

Douglas Adams
Agatha Christie
Neil Gaiman
Frank Herbert
Francine Pascal (it was my younger stepsister's, ok? And I was looking for something so light as to be completely insubstantial.)
Anne McCaffrey
Shakespeare
Terry Pratchett
Neal Stephenson
Roger Zelazny

(for the record, I only ended up with one in common with redrover1980, from whom I gacked this, and whose fic I absolutely worship. Maybe I should start reading what she does...)

whee!

I was absolutely exhausted this morning but now all of a sudden I have energy. *shrugs* I'll tell you one thing, it certainly has NOTHING to do with being home from school for the day.

So I went downstairs the other day to replay the ending of Kingdom Hearts. Started up the game, went to the open screen, and strangely enough, ALL the files saved had less than six hours on them. So I quit out, went to the PS2 menus, looked at what was on the memory card, and lo and behold in addition to my Kingdom Hearts saves, every single Final Fantasy X game was also gone. All that was left on the card was the boys' racing games, a couple dungeon-crawler game saves, and three 1303 KB Sims games.

For those who aren't obsessive compulsive about file sizes, a Kingdom Hearts or FFX save is about 130 KB. A PS2 memory card holds 8MB of data, or about 8000 KB. These Sims games were taking up very nearly half of the memory card's space.

So I was ticked, and suspicious since two out of three of the Sims saves were new. I've been conducting the Spanish Inquisition around the house, and finally ran into the culprit. It wasn't the Sims player, like I'd suspected, but it was indeed someone who'd wanted more space for their files. Of course there were excuses given -- "but you never play anymore!" "but the files were so old!" "but you had like ten files!" And none of them are valid. Obviously I do still play if I went down yesterday and saw the files were gone. The files near endgame were ones that I'd pick up from to watch the ending again, and then NOT SAVE afterwards because the game was over, so I really couldn't -- so if I'd accessed them more recently, the date shown by the PS2 wouldn't reflect that. And yeah, I did have like ten files. 1300 KB. And that's just about as many as I had the right to. There are seven kids here. That means to divide it evenly, each of us would get about 1400 KB of space. I was *under* any sane limit... not to mention that some of the saves belonged to other people who were playing my game. The space hog was the Sims games, ONE of which would take up as much space as ALL my files -- and since the three of them belonged to one or possibly two people, they were over quota. Not me. So he should have taken it up with them. -- Not to mention that the Sims player(s) in the house have spent fifty hours, tops, between those three saves. I had over a hundred clocked on both KH and FFX, because I'm an obsessive-compulsive stat maxer. 200+ hours he felt he had the right to go and delete without saying a word to me.

There will be blood.

Oh yeah, and I took a quiz today. )

It's a neat topic, it really is. I would definitely be interested in learning about all the strange things out there in space, and especially about how we found out about them in the first place. I'd love to know how they work but I'd settle for what they do. I know this could be a fascinating subject and a fascinating class.

But so far the interesting quotient is low, and I guess the reason why is we just aren't going fast enough for my tastes. We spent a whole day doing skits about why there are seasons -- which according to the teacher we should all know already from freshman Earth Science, so this is review. I didn't take Earth Science, though I think I learned about this stuff in fifth or sixth grade, and even without the review factor it's pretty boring for me.

The problem that leads to this, I guess, is that it's a slacker class. People seem to take it because they don't want to take chem or physics, the "real" sciences. (Or so I assume.) So I guess idiots and other people who don't care for school gravitate towards the class, outnumbering those of us who might actually like to learn something, and leading the teacher to believe that the class's collective IQ just barely hits three digits, and that really all we're fit for is watching cheesy videos. In general she may not be so far off.

On the other hand, we got Equinox Cupcakes (half chocolate, half vanilla, get it?) the other day. That's worth something. :)

Gnod, standing for Global Network of Dreams. Two very neat things here. Thing One, this, lets you give the name of a band (or author, or movie) and see what other bands/authors/movies share a similar audience -- via a really cool animated screen involving moving text, which amuses me to no end. (It's way too amusing to ask about MF&tGG and watch Mozart fly across the screen, almost as fast as Nirvana does.) Also neat, though lacking some of the "ooh, shiny!" value, is the whole enter three favorites, get recommendations business -- though you can practically do that with amazon.com so not quite so neat.

In other news, I am exhausted and absentminded and stressed and desparately need sleep. I'm considering going to bed right now, at a whopping 8:27 pm. Yes, I'm a loser, but I'm a tired loser...

... which I'm just added as an interest, in spite of the fact that I don't play it and (no offense, bass players) don't think it's exactly the most challenging instrument in the known universe. (Come on, it's like guitar for dummies! I mean... please don't hurt me...)

BUT. Here's why I love bass and think it's vital: in so many songs, it is the heart, the lifeblood. Get out your favorite rock now, turn up the bass, and listen: the energy in the song all comes from that strumming. I was listening to Eve 6 on the way to work, with the bass as high as it went on my puny discman. The heartbeat of the song is all in the bass -- screw the drums, the bass is where the rhythm is. And all sorts of interesting harmonies and echoes of melodies. (I guess the former is the alto in me talking, the bit that thinks the top of the staff is for showoffs and the shallow. :P ) ... This was going to be about twice this long but my brother needs math help, so I gotta go. That sums it up anyways, insofar as this particular fascination of mine can be worded.

ETA: Oh, I forgot. Killer bass example: Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. I give Fat Mike the bassist all the credit for how pulled-together, tight, and -- I want to say utterly professional, but that sounds pretty silly applied to the all-male band with the Natural Woman cover. I listen to NOFX just because I love that bass. ... OK, the clever lyrics too, but that's another kettle of seafood.

And anyone who knows where the challenge is, let me know. I've never played it, I wouldn't know, and I'm willing to learn. And apologize if I was wrong.
